Into the Wood

Into the Wood

This walk

through the wood of forgetting

has brought me

to the corner

where I left you

This minuscule morsel of my present past

ripe still with the souring of something gone bad

I wish there were a way to shake you

[rotten fruit from the tree -

turning you into something useful]

and find forgiveness

for opening the door to your madness

O, the work I have done

to lay waste to you

yet you linger

so bitter on this tongue
